Block YouTube Shorts in Safari on Mac
A Safari extension for your Mac that hides Shorts from YouTube feeds.
UnLoop for Mac adds a blocker to Safari. Once the extension is on, Shorts leave your YouTube feeds and Shorts links open in the normal player. Both are free.
This is for people who watch YouTube in Safari on a Mac. UnLoop also has a separate free Chrome extension.
The extension works in Safari. It does not change the YouTube app, so watch YouTube in Safari.
What Mac gets free, and what Pro adds
Hiding Shorts from feeds and opening Shorts links in the normal player cost nothing on Mac. Pro is optional.
- Hide Shorts from feeds
- Removes Shorts shelves and videos that link to Shorts from the lists YouTube shows, such as home, search results and subscription grids.
- Open Shorts links in the normal player
- Redirects a Shorts link to the regular watch page so the video plays like any other.
Pro adds more tools on iPhone and Mac, and one Apple subscription covers both.
See the App Store subscription screen for price and terms.
Safari on your Mac
- Safari on Mac: the extension runs here, so feeds lose their Shorts and a Shorts link goes to the regular watch page.
- YouTube in Safari: with Pro, suggested videos and comments are hidden.

With UnLoop
Switch on the UnLoop extension in Safari
These steps are general, not a screen by screen guide. Menu names change between macOS versions, so follow the names you see in Safari.
- Get UnLoop from the Mac App Store.
- In Safari's settings, look through the list of extensions.
- Switch UnLoop on in that list.
- Open YouTube in Safari and check the home feed for a Shorts shelf. There should not be one.
Shorts still showing?
- Check that UnLoop is switched on in Safari's extension settings.
- Reload the YouTube page.
What the Mac app collects
- Extension and apps
- The extension and apps collect no data and use no third-party tracking.
- This website
- This website uses Vercel Web Analytics, which records anonymous page views and install-button clicks, without cookies.
What the Mac app does not cover
- The YouTube app. The Safari extension leaves it as it is.
- The Shorts tab. Hide the Shorts tab is Chrome only, so the Mac app does not have it.
